So this happened over the weekend...or Welcome Home Titan

Last weekend Petco sponsored a Mega Adoption Event in Fort Worth.  Well over 500 animals were available for adoption at a reduced rate in an effort to clear the seven North Texas Human Society Shelters and the City of Fort Worth Animal Shelter.  At the end of the two day event, 861 animals were adopted and the North Texas Human Society had a number of their shelters not open on Monday because there were literally no animals in them.  Only three dogs were left at the end of the event and according to Facebook at least one of these guys has already gone to a new home.

We had been thinking about getting another dog and decided to go check out the event.  It didn't take too long before we were "meeting a greeting" dogs.  It was a total mad house of people, dogs and volunteers.

After some consideration, play time, and a quick walk around to look at the rest of the smaller dogs, this little guy came home with us.  (He is a great passenger in the car unlike our other two dogs who are basically red-hot-messes for at least the first 30 min of any car trip).  He is a 16 lb Chihuahua-mix.

After some discussion it was decided that we would name him Titan, though Monkey, Zebra and Pig were all thrown into the ring.  He is a wiggly guy and it's hard to get a good picture of him.

So far he is doing great with the other two dogs.  He is a little upset by the cat, but the cat is rather unimpressed.  Granted the cat is 19, so it takes a lot of wow him.  Titan also seems to be doing pretty well with our daughter.  She is learning to accept his no, and calls him her baby.  That brings the total of "her babies" to three dogs and one cat, leaving no babies for the rest of us.

Welcome Home Titan!

  1. Heartwarming to hear that so many animals were adopted! Congratulations on your new grandbaby. (She's your daughter's baby, right?)

  2. Aww! What a great event! I've been tinkering with the idea of getting another cat. I'd like a dog but don't really want the hassle of taking them camping or when we go on trips. we'll see.

And love that the dogs are your daughter's 'babies'. :)

  4. Wow what an event. I hope they all don't come back after Christmas. Your little Titan will probably rule the roost when he gets acclimated, other than the cat. Of course your cat is the King.

    1. A few people mentioned this and the Humane Society had some statistics on their website that made me feel better about this possibility. Having adopted from them at their shelter (Scout) and at this event (Titan), the process was actually the same, just on a larger scale.

  5. I’m a. Freak that all I can think about are the two poor dogs that didn’t get taken home. What must they be feeling!!? 😢

    1. I was a little troubled too. They were on the news and Facebook, so I'm sure they went home quickly.

  6. Congratulations Titan! I love this idea! So many lonely friends have found their forever family. I, too was abandoned but found my forever family through a pooch adoption agency. They are very kind people.
