Glenda Mae's Daylily Farm

On Father's Day we decided to take a day trip to East Texas for the day.  After stops at Big Chicken Daylily Farm, Echo Spring Blueberry Farm and a quick lunch we made our last stop to Glenda Mae's Daylily Farm.

Glenda Mae's is owned by Joey and Glenda Dziema and is located in Murchison, TX.  They grow over 400 named cultivars on the property.  You can visit their farm and buy directly from the field (both potted or dug for you that day) or over the internet and have them shipped directly to you.

While the majority of their plants are lined out in beds, they also have a lot of beautiful garden areas for their customers to enjoy.  In fact they became an AHS Display garden this year.

They have also started to hybridize daylilies.  They don't have any registered cultivars at this time, but I can't wait to see what they eventually create.  During the off season, Joey creates lots of artwork for the garden.. Here are a few of his creations.

This was our third visit to Glenda Mae's, so we have purchased a lot if the cultivars they carry that we are interested in, but we did see one plant that caught our eye.  I love dark daylilies, but unfortunately, they tend to fade during the day and are prone to water spots.  Imagine my delight at seeing a beautiful, crisp looking dark daylily in the afternoon.  'Jungle Beauty' was our one purchase at Glenda Mae's that day.

If you are even in the area (or are looking for some daylilies on the internet) this a great stop.  The owners are friendly and the gardens are beautiful.  While distance doesn't allow us to visit anytime we want, we will definitely be back (maybe on our next blueberry picking trip).

  1. If you ever come down this direction, you may enjoy Magnolia Hill Farm west of Brenham: http://masterofhort.com/tag/magnolia-hill-farm/ I've never been but I see it every time we drive to and from Austin. Looks like something y'all would be interested in!

  2. Thanks for the tour! 'Jungle Beauty' deserves its name (and reminds me a lot of my own 'Spanish Harlem'). I liked the metal sculpture/plant support in photo #10 a lot - it reminded me of the rusted metal structures supporting Bougainvillea at The Getty Center in LA but I found this smaller version of the same idea more friendly.

    1. Thats a favorite of mine too. I really enjoy all the garden art. It's well placed and not "too much".

  3. Lovely place, with that mix of tall trees for shade and shelter, with open spaces for Hems.

I love that color of daylily. Must go look up 'Jungle Beauty' now.

  5. Oh, Rebacca, what a farm! I see Glenda Mae's is a wonderful nursery, I liked the pool and plants. Did you buy anything? When I'm in such interesting places it's always badly for my purse :-(
