Papaya Update: The End of the Season

As expected our summer wasn't long enough to ripen any of the papayas in the garden.  The frost in November effectively ended any hope of that.  I'll let you see the papaya before the cold got to it, in all it's glory.

It now looks like a thick stick stuck in the garden.  We still haven't gotten around to cleaning it up.  We tend to leave a lot of that work for March.  I did take the largest fruit inside to see what it would look like.

Definitely not ripe, but rather pretty close up.

So ends the papaya experiment of the 2017 season.  We are considering it a success and have plans to include one in next years garden.  Maybe two if we add one near the new stock pond water garden we're planning.

  1. Sorry that you won't get any ripe papayas from your tree. On the bright side the foliage was spectacular!

    1. It really was. Our season isn't ever going to be long enough I don't think. Maybe if we were a few hours south, but not in north Texas.
