  3. Do these kinds of tortoises like to burrow during winter? Is he able to do so? Does he/she hibernate? does it get cold enough where you live for him to hibernate? what is it's name? How long have you had him?

    1. Ella is a hermann's tortoise and they can hibernate. It can be really hard to do that here with our weird winters. It can be in the 70s and the 30s the next. They need a steady temperature for successful hibernation. We keep her and our marginated tortoise Petunia in the greenhouse for the winter. They slow down a lot and don't eat much, but don't actually hibernate. Ella's former owners needed to rehome her, so joined us this past April.
